While the massive earthquake that hit Nepal on 2015, has done some damage to the architecturally beautiful city of Kathmandu, it still of home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites which stand proud and tall in the heart of the city.
We will be visiting the Kathmandu Durbar Square in the morning today. An epitome of cultural and religious diversity Kathmandu Durbar Square is a UNESCO World Heritage Site adorned with ancient Nepali architecture. With its old temples, architecturally rich encryptions and some renovated areas, Kathmandu Durbar Square surely releases an ambiance of a place that used to be ruled by ancient kings. The special attractions are the Hanuman Dhoka Museum, Taleju Temple, Kalbhairav, Kumari Temple( Temple of the Living Goddess) and the Basantapur Durbar.
Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, worth exploring today is the Patan Durbar Square which is situated in the center of the Patan City. Considered a specimen of ancient Newari architecture the Patan Durbar Square comprises of three courtyards called the MulChowk, SundariChowk, and the KeshavNarayan Chowk. A huge number of temples of several shapes and sizes adorn vicinity of the Patan Durbar Square. The major attractions include the Golden Temple of Hiranya Varna, Bhimsen Temple, and Krishna Mandir.
Bharatpur is actually the center of Chitwan. Today, we will fly to the Bharatpur airport and carry on with exquisite activities in the evening. We will wake up early morning to take a stroll in the capital, before flying to Chitwan’sBharatpur.
The flight from Kathmandu to Bharatpur takes a mere 25 minutes, the flight will obviously be included with the views of the sky high Himalayas that appear from Kathmandu. You will directly be transferred to a lodge in the Chitwan National Park.
Chitwan National Park is known to be the first national park in Nepal, and to this day is the most visited one because of its availability and ease of access. The National Park was established on 1973. While it gained the World Heritage Site status only on 1984, it was extremely popular long before that.
The climate of the park is subtropical as it is located in the Inner Terai lowlands of south-central Nepal. It has an area of 932 km square. Sal trees cover almost 70% of the park, serving as a perfect residential spot for exquisite fauna and flora. More than 50 species of grasses are found here, while there are more than 700 species of wildlife found here. The number of butterfly, moth and insect species has not been fully surveyed. There are 17 species of snakes, 113 species of mugger crocodiles and fish as well as 68 species of mammals housed in the National Park. It is one of the best tiger habitats in the world too. You might get a chance to spot one when you enter the premises of the park.Leopards co-exist with tigers and are prevalent on the peripheries of the park.
Chitwan National Park is also home to the highest population density of sloth beats in the world with 200-250 individuals. Rhinoceroses are another added attraction of the large national park. 605 individuals are currently residing in the Chitwan National Park. There are a recorded 543 species of birds in the Chitwan national park, including some globally threatened species like black chinned Yuhina, Gould’s Sunbird, Slaty-breasted rail, blossom headed parakeet etc. You can roam around the premises of the park and in the evening you will be treated to a slide presentation about the flora and fauna by a scenario naturalist, the naturalist will also answer your questions about the specials types of birds, animals, and flora found in the well-preserved park. 25-minute flight.
Exploring Chitwan is not an experience that can be carried out just in one day, but we still try our best to get access to whatever can be obtained for the duration of the day. Full day jungle activities today will keep you fully and happily occupied.
The day starts with an elephant safari through the dense grasslands. The morning time is the perfect time to get a hold of nocturnal mammals and birds. We start off early morning on top of an elephant, in order to get a glance of the majestic tiger. Tiger’s roam around in the high grasslands housed by the Chitwan National Park, and if you are lucky enough, you will most certainly get a sneak peek to the tiger live in action. We will follow the enthralling elephant safari with a visit to the elephant stables.
We will also use the rest of the day to canoe down the Rapti River. The River has multiple interesting areas and houses numerous bird and mammal species around the ends. In the evening, you can lay back and relax in the premises of the hotel, breathing in the ambiance and the wild breeze of the national park. If you are active enough, we can also include an optional bird watching or a jeep safari in the evening to uplift your soul.
After taking part in wonderful and adventurous activities in Chitwan, it is finally time to return back to Kathmandu. if interested, you can use the morning time to take a sneak peek at the birds that the national park beholds with pride. Transfer to Bharatpur Airport and fly back to Kathmandu. The afternoon is free in Kathmandu for exploration of the throbbing lifestyle of the capital. You can also relish the exquisite Nepali cuisine.
For those interested in taking in the architectural beauty of Kathmandu some more, an optional sightseeing tour will be managed.
Early in the morning, we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pashupatinath. Pashupatinath is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites in the world. The pagoda houses surround the sacred linga or the phallic symbol of Lord Shiva. The temple is an aid to have been made prior to 400 AD. Devotees can be seen taking ritual dips in the holy waters of Bagmati beside the temple premises.
After lunch, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Boudhanath can be visited. Boudhanath is called the Little Tibet. It is one of the largest Stupas in South Asia. The focal point of Buddhism in Nepal, the white mound is thirty-six meters overhead. This Stupa is situated on the ancient trade route to China where Tibetan merchants offered prayers.
In the afternoon, we will visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is called the open museum and is a living heritage full of architectural delights. Countless temples and showpiece adorn the Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Some include the Lion Gate, the 55 Windows Palace, Batsala Temple as well as the Picture Gallery. The figures of Hanuman, Narasingh Narayan, and Bhairav adorn the entire region.
With the memories of the wonderful adventure in mind, it is finally time to bid goodbye to the culturally, architecturally and topographically diverse country of Nepal.
