Enter the Everest National Park and climb slowly up to Namche Bazaar through the DudhKoshi River today. We start off our day by walking northwards along the DudhKoshi. We will be passing through the magnificent forests of magnolia, giant fir, and rhododendron. If you are lucky and happen to come to this trek in the spring season, you will be met with the red colored rhododendrons in full bloom. Upon reaching Jorasale (2805m), we will be crossing the west fork of the BhoteKoshi River. From here, the climb up to Namche Bazaar is a steep one.
After a 300 meter ascent, we will be met with the magnetic views of the massive Everest and its summit high above us. The summit appears majestic and tall beside the Nuptse-Lhotse ridge. After climbing for another 300 meter we will be entering into the “entry point of the Everest”, the Namche Bazaar (3440m). Namche Bazaar was once a trading spot for Tibetans and Nepalese people. The trading route has now been closed. Namche is now a prosperous village, full of Sherpas. You will find everything from trekking materials to an internet connection to other supplies easily. A weekly “haat” or “bazaar” is set up every week here where fresh foodstuffs, brought from lower villages are set up and sold. We will spend the night in the warm and welcomeing, Sherpa settlement of Namche. Approximately 7 hours of walk.
To eliminate the risk of Altitude sickness it is mandatory to separate one day for acclimatization at this point. Rather than resting around in the lodge today, it is best to hike to the villages of Khunde and Khumjung.
We will firstly climb out steeply from Namche to the Everest View Hotel. This strategically situated hotel offers the extremely tantalizing views of the Everest and AmaDablam in its full glory. A perfect location to have a short tea break, the Everest View Hotel was built by the Japanese.
We continue to trek into the villages of Kunde and Khumjung. Both of these villages are situated under the rocky peak Khumbila. Khumbila is a sacred peak for Sherpas. While in Khunde, we can visit the Edmund Hillary Hospital and move on to visit a monastery in Khumjung. Give a small donation to the monastery and, we will get the opportunity to witness a Yeti Skull. We will descend back to Namche to spend the night. The hiking can be cut short depending upon the interest of the trekking group.
Another option is to move upwards towards the village of Thame. Thame is the village of Tenzing Norgay, the first Sherpa to scale the Everest. We continue the hike upwards to Phurte, which offers exclusive views of the mountain peaks all around.
A special day as we fly on a helicopter to the Everest Base Camp. View the surrounding mountain ranges like AmaDablam (6856m), Thamserku (6608m), Lhotse (8501m), Nuptse (7859m), Kantega (6685m) before finally reaching the base camp. If lucky, we might get the chance to meet several people, moving up towards the Everest Expedition and many who might be returning back after scaling the highest peak in the world. The Everest Base Camp offers the extremely beautiful views of the Khumbu Ice Fall along with the panorama of several mountains of the region. With our minds amazed at the miraculous big blocks of ice, before us and the beautiful Nuptse towering above us, this moment is certainly a one to remember for a lifetime. Pumori rears up behind the Everest Base Camp. After witnessing the spectacle surrounding this naturally beautiful location, of base camp it is time to fly back to Lukla. Approximately 1 hours of helicopter flight.
The trekking crew will help you transfer your luggage to the Lukla airport in the early morning. After breakfast you will be leaving behind the spectacles of the Everest Region and returning back to where it all started, the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu. The return flight is equally exciting as the incoming flight to Lukla. With reminiscence of the trek fresh and with the views of the Everest that we imprinted in our memory and soul, we bid farewell to the exotic views of the snowcapped peaks.
Notes: Please note that if Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight could not be operated, it is due to manteenance of runway at Kathmandu airport. In this case we will fly from Lukla to Ramechhap airport and drive to Kathmandu for 4 hours.
